The Durham Library Foundation Board of Directors has developed independent and prudent investment strategies to maximize restricted gifts for long-term benefits to the library. As of June 30, 2019, the Foundation had over 4.5 million dollars under management. The current policy allows for an annual grant distribution to the Durham County Library of 3%-4% of a three year rolling average of endowment balances.

Each spring, the Board of Directors determines the amount of available funding, and the Library Director submits proposals that fulfill the following endowment purposes.
