Main in Motion: A Storytelling Experience

Durham Library Foundation is pleased to present Main in Motion: A Storytelling Experience featuring Big Red Dance Project. Register now!

Step into a night where books breathe, spaces dance, and stories come alive. Join us on Friday, June 5 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm for an unforgettable, immersive evening at Main Library. This isn't your typical sit-and-watch performance. Instead, you'll be guided through the library's unique spaces to experience a series of intimate, site-specific dances that bring stories into motion.

Guests will be guided in groups around Main Library to experience dances designed for each space based on Big Red Dance Project's masterpiece, First Kiss. First Kiss was created by Big Red Dance Project founder Gerri Houlihan and local author Mimi Herman, who wrote the award-winning novel, The Kudzu Queen. Mimi Herman will be at the event to sign and sell books.

This event is free of charge, and all are welcome.

Registration is required.

Big Red Dance Project

Founded in October, 2017, Big Red Dance Project (BRDP) is a collective of adults who challenge stereotypes about aging and artistry. With dancers ranging in age from 35-70+, their dancing reveals the reality that more mature dancers have an enormous amount to contribute - not just to the art form but to the way older adults are perceived in our society.

Big Red Dance Project is a fiscally sponsored project of Triangle ArtWorks.

Durham Library Foundation

In 2000, a passionate group of citizens organized the Durham Library Foundation (DLF) to develop and encourage the long-term financial health and growth of Durham County Libraries.

Durham Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to provide a margin of excellence for the library by raising money and managing investments.
