DLF Supports Vital Programs Like These!
We recently awarded our 2022-23 grants to the following deserving projects:
Digging Durham Seed Library – Nearly 6,000 seed packets were distributed last year from all seven Durham County Library locations. The seed collections, housed in old card catalogs, have been funded by the Foundation for ten years.
E-Books and E-Audio Books – $35,000 was spent to improve patron wait times and provide a wider range of titles.
Push and Play Readalongs – Caregivers find the marriage of a hardcover book with a rechargeable audio device easy to use, appealing to kids, and helpful in bridging the digital divide that begins early in life.
Get Set, Get Ready, Let’s Read! – This program focuses on building early literacy skills for children who attend Durham County’s in-home childcare facilities.
Library Fest – There is something for everyone at this week-long celebration highlighting the incredible services of Durham County Library. Overwhelmingly successful in its second year, Library Fest 2022 featured 29 events enjoyed by 1,800 attendees. Plus, 312 new library cards were issued during the week.
Humanities – This programming brings nationally-recognized authors, speakers, and world-class scholars to thousands of library patrons throughout the year.
Tween Gaming and Fun Hour – A space at Main was created for children (ages 9-12) to play games, work on projects, and get to know each other.
Express Yourself Multimedia Production Studio – A former periodicals room was adapted as a production studio for tweens, teens, and emerging adults (18-24). Patrons and learners have access to the latest tools necessary to establish an online presence.
Children’s Books in Other Languages – Easy picture and chapter books were purchased in four different languages: French, German, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
N.C. Collection Book Binding – Funding was provided to bind over 700 books and periodicals in the collection that were in need of repair and stabilization.
Homeschool Lab Kits – This special collection of science supplies can be checked out for independent studies and used in-house for programs like tutoring, Grade School Masterminds, and Homeschool Learning Lab.
